Abstract
Several specimens collected in Prov. Nemuro, Hokkaido, and at various localities in southern Saghalien, which have been confused with Phycodrys fimbriata (DELA PYL.) KYLIN, are proved to be referable to Phycodrys rubens f. quercifolia (TURNER) NEWTON (Delesseria sinuosa f. QUERCIFOLIA (TURN.) KJELLMAN) (Japanese name: “Kasiwabakonoha-modoki” n. n.). Our specimens under consideration differ from the Japanese specimens of P. fimbriata in having glandular cells among the superfieial cells, in being deeper roddish purple in color, in having smaller and much more abundant marginal leaflets, in having tetrasporangial sori at the apices of the lateral veins and on the marginsal leaflets but not on the intercostal areas of the leaves, and in being smaller in the size of the cystocarp. This is the first time that the present species has been reported with certainty as growing within our boundary.
