Abstract

Mishooking in skipjack troll fishing has continued to be a source of annoyance to fishermen. The authors carried out some investigations to know the causes for mishooking in skipjack trolling by using two types of generally used hooks and a new type of hook designed by the authors. Simultaneously, the effect of the improved hook with protections from mishooking were evaluated.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. The ratio of mishooked fish with the double hook was the greatest among the three kinds of hooks compared, and the smallest with the improved hook.
2. There was no difference in catch efficiency between the improved hook gear and quartet hook gear.
