The spores of Bacillus subtilis which were injured by heat treatment at 90°C for 10min were not able to germinate in Demain's minimal agar medium. The injured spores, however, underwent recovery and germinated when the medium was supplemented with glycine, threonine or homoserine. These auxotrophic characters were genetically inherited.
