Abstract
The sterols of pearl-oyster Pinctada martensi were isolated by preparative HPLC, and identi-fied by GC-MS and IR. The structures of 21 sterols were established. And the sterol composi-tion was determined by using GC. The major components were Δ5-sterols. It was specially characteristic of the pearl-oyster that a lot of saturated sterols and ring-saturated sterols were also present as lesser components.
Rapid separation methods for sterols by using preparative HPLC (using a C8 column with a methanol/water (92:8) mixture as eluding solvent) was developed.
