Abstract
Levels of an antibacterial agent, oxolinic acid, in salmonids such as rainbow trout and am ago salmon were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. After oral administration of oxolinic acid, doseage of 40mg/kg, the concentration of the drug in tissues of rainbow trout and am ago salmon reached peak levels of 3.33-23.2 and 2.80-14.4μg/g or ml at 2-3-day post dosing, respectively when they were kept at a water temperature of 15°C. The oxolinic acid remained in rainbow trout was detected on the 9-day, while that in amago salmon was detected on the 27-day post dosing. There was no difference in organotropy of oxolinic acid between the two fish species, that is, kidney> liver> muscle> blood. The effect of water temperature on absorption and excretion of oxolinic acid in rainbow trout was examined. The peak levels of the drug in the tissues at 15°C were attained within 2 days, and these levels disappeared at 12-day post dosing, while those of the drug at 10°C were within 3 days and these levels disappeared at 18-day post dosing.
