Hollow-fiber adsorbents containing amidoxime groups were prepared from polyacrylonitrile hollowfibers and their adsorption ability for uranium from seawater was studied. The alkaline treatment ofthese adsorbents has been marked by dramatic improvement for higher pickup rate of uranium. Oneof the most favorable factors was the formation of micropores based on the swelling in alkaline medium. The other was that the startling change occurs in the chemical structure of hollow-fiber adsorbents. Crosspolarization/magic-angle sample spinning (CP-MAS)13C NMR spectra gave some information on the overall direction for the subject research.
