JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA flow injection method for the determination for magnesium with eriochrome azurol B (EAB) and cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTMA) was studied, and the following results were obtained.
1) The linearity of calibration curve was good, and the relative standard deviation in respectivefive determinations of 1.0 and 0.5 mg/l of magnesium were 0.79 and 0.85%, respectively.
2) A routine sampling rate of 60 determinations per hour can be achieved with the proposedmethod.
3) Samples containing calcium need to be used after suitable dilution because more than 4 mg/lof calcium causes positive error.
4) The values of magnesium in natural water obtained by this method agreed well with those obtained by atomic absorption spectrometry.View full abstractDownload PDF (3037K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSSelenium (IV) was coprecipitated with zirconium (IV) hydroxide formed at pH 7.5 in 1,000ml of seawater, whereas selenium (VI) was not coprecipitated. After centrifuging the precipitate, it was dissolvedwith hydrochloric acid. In the presence of zirconium (IV), trace selenium (IV) was extracted with 2, 3-diaminonaphthalene into cyclohexane, and was fluorometrically determined. This coprecipitation methodwas rapid, convenient, highly sensitive and free from contamination, since it was carried out in a subclosedsystem (using one beaker and one centrifugal tube) and a zirconium reagent containing negligible amounts of selenium was used.View full abstractDownload PDF (2833K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSHollow-fiber adsorbents containing amidoxime groups were prepared from polyacrylonitrile hollowfibers and their adsorption ability for uranium from seawater was studied. The alkaline treatment ofthese adsorbents has been marked by dramatic improvement for higher pickup rate of uranium. Oneof the most favorable factors was the formation of micropores based on the swelling in alkaline medium. The other was that the startling change occurs in the chemical structure of hollow-fiber adsorbents. Crosspolarization/magic-angle sample spinning (CP-MAS)13C NMR spectra gave some information on the overall direction for the subject research.View full abstractDownload PDF (6632K) -
