Endoscopic treatments for common bile duct stones (CBDS) is widely used in clinical practice as a minimally invasive, safe and reliable treatment method. However, in patients with surgically altered anatomy, it is often difficult to insert an endoscope up to the duodenal papilla, especially in Roux-en-Y reconstruction, percutaneous or surgical treatment has been performed as a salvage. Recently, balloon endoscopy assisted ERCP and EUS-guided antegrade treatment have been available and expand its indication even in patients with surgically altered anatomy. Here, we want to describe the current status of endoscopic treatment for CBDS in patients with surgically altered anatomy.
