Background: Intracholecystic papillary neoplasm (ICPN) is recognized as a precancerous lesion requiring surgical resection. However, the optimal surgical procedure remains unclear. We present a case of ICPN successfully treated with laparoscopic gallbladder bed resection.
Case: A woman in her 70s had a gallbladder tumor detected on contrast-enhanced CT. Bile cytology was negative for malignancy. Suspecting gallbladder cancer, laparoscopic gallbladder bed resection was performed. The pathological diagnosis confirmed ICPN arising from adenomyomatosis, and according to the Japanese classification of biliary tract carcinoma, the diagnosis was pTis, N0, M0, Stage 0.
Conclusion: We report a case of ICPN arising from adenomyomatosis. Laparoscopic gallbladder bed resection may be a viable and effective surgical approach for ICPN.
