Abstract
We reported an advanced-age case of relapsing cholecystitis with cirrhotic liver who was treated with ETGBD. The patient was an 86 year-old woman with diabetes mellitus. In May 1999 the patient suffered edema and abdominal pain. She was diagnosed as cholecystitis and liver cirrhosis with ascites. She was performed percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) for cholecystitis. Her family didn't hope cholecystectomy because of advanced-age woman. Furthermore we judged she was at high risk for surgery because she was too old and suffering from liver cirrhosis. Therefore she left the hospital with PTGBD. After one year this patient and her family hoped to be released from PTGBD. We performed ETGBD to maintain patency of cystic duct and to prevent recurrent cholecystitis. The patient has been in good health without cholecystitis or complications, as of 9 months after ETGBD.
