Abstract

Agglutinating properties of binder used for manufacture of carbon electrode were investigated in conformity with the “bitumen theory” concerning agglutinating property of coal.
Though the lower softening point of pitches the more (γ12) fraction to have strong caking power is contained; lower, out of some extent, softening point pitches give on the contrary weak caking power practically. (γ1+2γ) Even only fraction indicated caking power weakly.
That the binder contains to some extent non-caking fraction α (less than ca. 25%) posesses rather strong caking power, was found.
