Aiming at 8K Super Hi-Vision (SHV) satellite broadcasting, new standards for next-generation satellite broadcasting systems have been standardized in Japan. Those standards realize not only a transmission channel capacity of approximately 100 Mbps but also harmonization and hybrid channel usage of broadcasting and broadband for content delivery by adopting MPEG Media Transport (MMT). To evaluate the transmission performance of the physical layer and the functionality of the transport layer, we conduct a novel transmission and functionality test using a prototype modulator, demodulator, MMT streamer, and MMT receiver over “KIZUNA (WINDS)” satellite. The experimental results show that synchronized audio and video signals can be presented successfully even though they are delivered via asynchronous channels.
