The technique of making "gentetu" (the raw iron for steel manufacture) with a rotary kiln has played an important role in the gentetu production and remarkably made progress for the past several years. The Renn-process and the sponge process are developing so far in each field of the research, and require the corresponding study of the refractories used for this purpose. The author has dealt once with refractories for the Renn-process as reprentative method. However, there remains still a number of difficulties-relating to bricks for Luppe zone from viewpoint of physics and chemistry. In the present report, the author studied Mullite bricks made by electric melting which proved to be fairly successful, and discussed the improvement, of some remaining difficulties.
