Abstract
This paper discusses intranet geographic information systems. On intranet GIS, computer environments (including operating system, machine architecture, implementation language), role share between server and client, the method to know the place the necessary data existing, file input and output on a local file, are important. In this paper, we discuss these technical problems. To know the server computer which possesses requested data, we propose a mechanism similar with DNS (domain name system). We have developed an intranet GIS to be used on WWW browsers by using plug-in method and ActiveX.
