Abstract

This paper discusses an information system for disaster prevention using a GIS. The information system gets a lesson from HANSHIN-AWAJI earthquake disaster. This system quickly collects information about disasters and provides official information for citizens and organs of a city. Advantages of this system are the following. The user-friendly interface: Citizens can easily operate this system. They can access to this system from their houses or offices, etc. This system visually shows disaster information using GIS on a WWW browser. The effective data structure: This system registers disaster information in the data structure. We can reduce the data size of disaster information by the data structure. The portability: The main part of this system is independent of GIS.This system provides a general interface using CORBA. This system can easily connect with any GIS by the general interface.
