Abstract

Objective: To identify the characteristics of nursing care provided during postpartum hospitalization and in the community, and to examine directions for postpartum mothers to live both mentally and physically healthy lives. Methods: A semi-structured interview survey was conducted from January to March 2021 with 5 midwives working in obstetrics departments and 5 public health nursing professionals. Results: Five categories were extracted from the midwives, including [management during pregnancy to reduce risks], [care during hospitalization focusing on maternal recovery], and [support for mother and child utilizing family, multidisciplinary, and multi-agency resources]. Seven categories were extracted from the public health nurses, including [support for mothers to establish a sound mind and body as well as to balance child rearing], [support for confirming and enhancing the child-rearing environment and coordination among family members], [support for mothers to connect with related organizations appropriately], and [support for the prevention of abuse]. Conclusion: In both the hospital and community settings, it was clear that nurses consider the importance of maintaining the mother's physical and mental health as well as maintaining involvement.
