Abstract

This study examined developmental exposure effect of aluminum chloride (AlCl3) on hippocampal neurogenesis in rats. Pregnant rats were administered 0, 0.25, or 0.5% AlCl3 via drinking water from gestational day 6 to postnatal day (PND) 21, and offspring were examined on PND 21 and PND 77. As a result, AlCl3 was considered to facilitate proliferation of type-2 to type-3 progenitor cells or inhibit differentiation to granule cell at the high dose on PND 21. Effect was recovered on PND 77. We compared the results of this study in rats with the previous study in mouse.
