Abstract

This study examined developmental exposure effect of lead acetate (PbAc) on hippocampal neurogenesis in rats. Maternal rats were administered 0, 2,000, or 4,000 ppm PbAc via drinking water from gestational day 6 to postnatal day (PND) 21, and offspring were examined on PND 21 and PND 77. As a result, PbAc facilitated proliferation of intermediate progenitor cells and inhibited differentiation to granule cell at high dose on PND 21, suggesting relation with enhanced CALB2+ interneuron signal and suppressed RELN signal, respectively. Effect on GABAergic interneurons sustained at the adult stage.
