The proportional-type oil hydraulic valve with a proportional solenoid has been widely used as a control valve which can simply control the oil hydraulic system. However, because the proportional solenoid has a structure that the magnetic flux is leaked partially in a magnetic circuit, magnetic efficiency is not necessarily good. Therefore, the magnetic circuit characteristic of this proportional solenoid was examined using the finite element analysis as a fundamental examination of the characteristics improvement of the proportional solenoid. In this finite element analysis, some magnetic flux diagram and contour graph of magnetic flux density to the change in the gap between stator and armature of this proportional solenoid were calculated and drawn. From these figures, if the gap was remained in the proportional control zone, the electro-magnetic force generated by the proportional solenoid was presumed to be constant. Moreover, the measurement value and the analytical one were compared about the relations between the gap and the electro-magnetic force of this proportional solenoid. As a result, both were almost corresponding, and it became clear that the finite element analysis which had been used this time was appropriate.
