A flexibility of limp fabrics is one of the major causes that make difficult to treat such fabrics by hand in making-up processes. In the processes of this kind, it will be able to make easy handling the fabrics by reducing its flexibility and expansibility.
From this point of view, a development has been made of techniques for temporary hardening of limp fabrics by adding the benzoic acid as a hardening agent.
The physical properties of temporarily hardened fabric such as rigidity, shear force and stretch force tended to increase with increasing of the amount of added hardner on the fabric.
It is also found that the physical properties of the hardened fabric are recovered its properties to original states by removing a hardening agent from the fabric by exposing to a hot air.
Also, a practical making-up test on handling of such hardened fabrics is performed, and an increase of working efficiency is undoubtedly recognized.
