A Hiruta's abrasion tester has been improved by the use of a transducer and a micro-computer to investigate the abrasion reliability of warp sized yarns.
The abrasion life time and its elongation of the sized yarns have been determined by this tester. Sized yarns were scoured and bleached in the state of soft cheese before sizing.
It has found that the mean of these values had relation to the shrinkage rate of scoured and bleached yarns in 30°C Bé NaOH solution, and no relation to the rate of whiteness of yasrns. On the other hand, the probability of the abrasion life time of all specimen indicated a straight line broken in two lines on a Weibull probability paper showing the catastrophic distribution of the specimen which had the lower shrinkage rate.
Yarns, impurities of which such as waxes, petin, etc. on the fiber surface were removed in the scouring process, has the higher rate of diffusion of sizing agents and the fibers are well adhered. Therefore the abrasion life time becomes longer.
