The improved efficiency of automobiles, energy equipment, and various combustion equipment has resulted in raising their operating teperature. Consequently, heat resistance to high temperature is thus strongly required in the filters that are used for these machines.
The 20 Cr-5 Al stainless steel is a material developed for the metal honeycomb of automobiles in answer to such demands.Stainless steel fibers produced using this 20 Cr-5 Al stainless steel material at low costs by the coiled sheet shaving method is looked forward to as a fiber material for high temperature filters.
In this study, the heat-resistance of the 20 Cr-5 Al stainless steel fiber was compared with that of normal stainless steel fibers. The results show that while normal stainless steel becomes powdery when maintained at 1173 K, 21.6 ks, the 20 Cr-5 Al stainless steel fiber retains the flexible features of fiber as even at 1373 K, 360 Ks.
