Abstract

There exists a wide variety of the so-called shear pumps that are designed for various applications in the wide fields of foods, medicines, chemicals and so on. In order to establish a useful method to monitor the cavitation behavior, we measured the cavitation noise, the vibrational acceleration and the upstream wall fluctuating pressure in the shear pump, in relation to the discharge, the net positive suction head and the fluid viscosity. The cavitation behavior can be monitored by detecting the noise, the acceleration level and the fluctuating pressures corresponded well with the cavitation development.
