Abstract

This paper presents on stability of a vertical shaftless centrifugal pump with floating impeller by use of non-contact magnetic drive. Considering the axial thrust by the pressure difference between shroud and disk side of impeller, a centrifugal pump with floating impeller was realized. In order to make an investigation into stable operating condition of floating impeller, the relationship between pressure fluctuation and floating condition of a shaftless centrifugal pump impeller was made clear by experimental research. In this study, the wall pressure and floating distance on impeller were measured by transducer with high frequency response. Using the time dependent data to get the data acquisition system, the statistical and spectral analysis was carried out. From these results, it was proven that the condition of floating impeller became unstable decreasing the flow rate in the effect of the pressure fluctuation.
