Abstract

The interest in tertiary education dropouts is increasing with the fact that the number of them is also increasing in current Japan. However, very few studies focus on their socioeconomic attainment. The purpose of this article is to confirm the impact of dropout on their life after they leave the school by using quantitative analysis. The results show that dropouts have a difficulty in obtaining regular employment and they cannot earn same wage as graduates when both do not have an working experience as a regular employee. Tertiary education dropouts are facing two step difficulties in achieving socioeconomic attainment. If they cannot be regular workers, job with high wage are occupied by graduates, and they have to put up with lower wage.
