The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of communication about contraception with their sexual partner on contraceptive behavior among Japanese adolescents, using data from National Survey of Japanese Adolescentsʼ Sexual Behavior conducted by the Japanese Association for Sex Education. The results of binomial logistic regression indicate that the frequency of communication about contraception with their sexual partner has a statistically significant positive effect on femaleʼs contraceptive behavior among high school and university students. On the other hand, the communication about contraception with their sexual partner does not affect contraceptive behavior among male students. In order to protect adolescents from the disadvantages of unwanted pregnancies, in addition to providing them with accurate knowledge of contraception, comprehensive sex education is required to enable adolescents and their sexual partners to communicate sufficiently about contraception.
