Analysis of the Strict Solution of Rate : Distortion Function for Orthogonal Transform Coding

Abstract

The strict solution of Rate-Distortion function for Orthogonal Transform coding is derived assuming transform coefficients are memoryless. Comparison of the derived strict solution and the conventional approximate solution is also conducted on computer simulation base. And the results show that an approximate error is not negligible at low bit rate coding of actual video signals.
