In the human character recognition process, some information called the visual features are extracted from characters and utilized as clues of recognition process. In case of Chinese characters which have 10 line segments or more, it is inferred that their visual features are their peripheral shapes. In this study, the visual features of Chinese characters which have less than 10 line segments were analyzed. As the result, Chinese characters which have 5 line segments or less were recognized by the information about the line segments and their connections. Also it was found that the peripheral shape became more important visual features than line segments as the number of lines segments included in a character increased.
