A study of a noise whitening method in digital recording

Abstract

The total noise in the VTR reproduction process is colored noise due to modulation noise, which influences the error rate. In this paper, we propose a new method which can whiten noise in reproduced digital signals by subtracting the estimated modulation noise. We applied this method to actual reproduced digital signals, and confirmed that the proposed method can reduce modulation noise and whiten total noise in reproduced digital signals.
