Medical virtual reality (VR) allows us to manipulate three dimensional (3D) human structures in 3D space in real-time. We attempted to construct a simulation system for surgical operations using VR techniques. The body of a patient including organs, is visualized as 3D images using serial MRI or CT data and the user is able to perform incisions on the skin and organ tissues, and to widen the incision line using surgical tools in virtual space. In this project we have tried to establish a system in which the user is able to perform realistic surgical procedures and to obtain a realistic response from the tools and tissues.
