Abstract

In this study, we will examine the role and the challenges of the Geijyutsushi ® (Artist) in the “Takamatsu City Geijyutsushi® Dispatch Project,” carried out by NPO Archipelago in Takamatsu City, in Kagawa Prefecture. The “Takamatsu City Geijyutsushi® Dispatch Project” is a unique project that sends artists to kindergartens, nursery schools, and preschools in Takamatsu City and is based on early childhood education in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Therefore, based on the thoughts and questions received from a questionnaire survey about Geijyutsushi® activities, we would like to clarify the what is happening at these childcare sites and schools. The Geijyutsushi® activities are flexibly selected according to the children’s learning and interests. Things that interest them and having their voices heard lead to the expansion and growth of a child’s creativity. With these things, we can acquire children’s learning and also improve the quality of childcare. It is necessary to share the role and significance of such artists with childcare workers, parents, and the government, and to work together in order to establish the expression of children.
