Abstract

Based on a survey of university students regarding their appreciation attitudes toward art museums, this study’s purpose is to interpret a method of avoiding demerits to reveal the consciousness about art museum appreciation among university students enrolled in a teacher training course. For this report, I conducted an in-depth investigation into the university students’ feelings with regard to the appreciation of an art museum in terms of merits and demerits. In the results of my analysis, when many university students reported that “they could appreciate a genuine work,” it was considered a merit. Additionally, the second and the third results, from “the rule of the art museum” and “the stress for others” to the first, “costing a rate, taking time to go to the art museum,” constituted application of a demerit. For any demerit that could not be settled, I circumvented the issue by viewing some demerits from another viewpoint, and, in conclusion, I suggest a method to reform the connection to the student’s consciousness. Through the practice of appreciation of art museums, there is an opportunity to investigate changes in consciousness among university students in the future.
