Abstract

In order to clarify the character strengths(CS)that should be fostered in career education, we examined the relationship between the CS possessed by working adults and economic and psychological factors. An online survey was conducted with 231 working adults. Since gender differences were found in annual income, age, and years of service, correlation analysis was conducted for each gender, and significant positive correlations were found between job satisfaction and work engagement for more than 90% of all CS for both genders. Most of the CSs with significant positive correlations with annual income were “strengths necessary for smooth performance of work” for men and “Japan-specific strengths such as facilitating interpersonal relationships” for women. The results of examining the differences in CS scores between the three groups according to annual income showed a significant difference between the group of less than 3.3 million yen and the group of more than 6.95 million yen, and there were many “strengths necessary to actively overcome the current situation”
