Abstract
This study aims to understand differences in moving situation and need for residential area of single mother households between rural are and urban area. In both Tottori Prefecture and Osaka City, over 70% of single mother households moved out of marital housing. In Osaka City, single mother who moved within same city prioritized children's school district and childcare, and who moved from other area prioritized relatives support. On the other hand in Tottori Prefecture single mothers prioritized relatives support regardless of former residential area. Moreover although single mothers in Osaka city mainly moved to private rental and relatives' house after divorced, single mothers' in Tottori Prefecture didn't have any other option except relatives' house. From these consequences, regarding single mother households in Tottori Prefecture, securing permanent housing is more restricted.
