Abstract

A purpose of this paper is to make clear how multi-ethnic Taiwan appear in Zhongzheng District of Taipei on the movement of Taiwanization, focusing on designated historic landmarks. Before democratization, almost no one willingly show interest for historic landmarks, because of complicated political condition. Since 1980s, people have devoted attention to unique historical experiences of Taiwan. And they gradually began accepting the experience of colonial rule by Japan as a part of Taiwanese history. All of the historic landmarks designated in 1980s are constructed in the period Qing Dynasty, on the other hand, the historic landmarks designated in 1990s includes historic landmarks constructed in both Qing Dynasty and Japanese colonial period. Taipei has a number of historic landmarks with political nature. Some of those are designated as a landmark that shows unique experience of Taiwan on the process of democratization.
