Pitch-catch experiments are done using angle probes with the refraction angle of 85 degrees, and it is shown that signal concerned with shear vertical (SV) wave propagating along a surface of a test object can be received. This signal is referred to as SVC (SV wave for Critical angle). By simulation using FDTD method, it is shown that beam width of SV wave expands with propagation and energy concerned with the SV wave exists at the surface. The energy excites longitudinal wave in the wedge of the receiving angle probe, and so SVC is received.
