Stress field controls the development of a volcano in detail. For example, in Mauna Loa and Kilauea, upward migration of fissure eruption site, change of rift zone, increase in eruption rate, and change from flank eruption dominant to central eruption dominant are observed (Fig. 1). The results of gelatin experiments and stress analyses suggest that increase in compressive stress due to some internal or external causes results in the variation with time.
