Abstract

Growth stimulating effect on rats exerted by mycelium of Aspergillus oryzae added to a diet containing the staple foodstuffs for Japanese people was found to be mainly due to vitamins of B group. Among the vitamins, riboflavin was most effective. Consequently, insufficiency of the vitamin in the staple foodstuffs for Japanese people was reperceived. Furthermore, it is likely that the mycelium contains some other growth factor (s) than the known vitamins, since an additional effect of the mycelium to the all vitamins containing diet was observed.
