Abstract
Investigation was made on the physical and chemical properties of O-benzoylthiamine disulfide (BTDS), C_<38>H_<42>O_6N_8S_2. The crystal is colorless, odorless and nonhygroscopic. Studies on ultraviolet absorption of the aqueous solution was made at various pHs and showed that the absorption maxima are shifted with change of pH and the isobestic points are at 239mμ and 274mμ. The structure of BTDS was proved by the infrared spectral evidence. BTDS is sparingly soluble in water, ether and benzene, but soluble in acids and chloroform. Rf value is 0.85±0.03,when a developing solvent consisted of butanol, acetic acid and water is used. It was shown that BTDS is stable in a concentration of 2mg/ml not only in acidic enviroments, but in weak alkaline solutions. The powder of BTDS is very stable even when mixed with alkaline salts.
