Abstract
Male White Leghorn chicks of 7 days old were fed on diets containing 10% of lecithinefree soy bean oil, with or without the addition of 0.1 or 0.2g/kg of carnithine and 4g/kg of choline for 3 weeks. The supplementation of carnithine or choline caused the improvement of growth over 10% of the control. Any sign of fatty liver was not recognized in all groups and differences were not found in saponification and iodine values of liver fats between carnithine- and choline- supplemented groups. In the feeding experiment with the choline-free diet, consisting ground corn, fish meal, vitamin mixture and 10% soy been oil, it was proved that 0.2g/kg of carnithine had almost equal growth potency as 4g/kg of choline.
