The Correlation of Levels Between Vitamin E and Lipids in Red Blood Cell Membrane of Healthy Children

Abstract
Vitamin E and lipids were examined in red blood cells (RBC) and plasma of 69 healthy children after overnight-fasting. The results were as follows. 1. A negative correlation (r=-0.74, p<0.01) was observed between vitamin E and lipids in RBC membrane. 2. In RBC membrane similar negative correlations were observed between cholesterol and vitamin E and between phospholipids and vitamin E. 3. A negative correlation was also found between plasma lipids and RBC membrane lipids. 4. About 4.5 times as much vitamin E was contained in plasma lipids as RBC membrane lipids.
