Abstract
The importance of the research in vitamin D for the normal and healthy growth of children will not be changed. The idea may be supported by the fact, that we still have vitamin D deficient rickets even in good nutritional and social conditions in Japan. We have been involved in vitamin D research to obtain normal and healthy growth of children. Our contributions are follows. 1) Development of a new convenient assay system for vitamin D metabolites and its clinical use. 2) Development of new treatment regimens for x-linked hypophosphatemic vitamin D resistant rickets by inactive vitamin D metabolites or by newly synthesized vitamin D analog. 3) Identification of new biological roles of vitamin D. Further studies will contribute to the health and wellness of children.
