Recently, the requirement and importance of contents for distant learning is dramatically increased because of the collaboration among universities and local communities, the variegation of students, distributed campuses. But the cost to produce specially designed e-learning contents for distant leaning is still too expensive for the staffs in universities. To reduce the cost of production, the idea making e-learning contents from archived lectures has been studied since the end of 90s. However, the archived lectures are usually difficult to use as resource of e-learning contents, because common lectures reflect various un-recordable factors like face-to-face communication. We have constructed automated lecture archive system that captures MPEG2 stream of two-way TV lectures from ATM onto huge disk strage and DVD collection, to provide resource for distant learning contents.
