Abstract
The javelin throw requires a special environment due to its nature, making it difficult to experience. We propose a javelin throwing experience in a virtual space using a physical proxy that is shorter in length than the actual javelin. As a basic study, we used dynamic touch, a shape perception property, to investigate whether matching the mass property of a physical proxy with that of a spear would produce an equivalent sensation. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the perceived length of the different physical proxies, however, in a comparison of the real and virtual spaces, the perceived length was significantly shorter in the virtual space.
