Abstract
In this study, we investigate the perceptual and experiential shifts that occur when users switch between first-person and third-person perspectives and the inherent differences between these two viewpoints. Our experiment involved using a camera positioned behind the user and a button to alternate between a first-person view in a standard virtual reality (VR) space, facilitated by a head-mounted display (HMD), and a third-person view utilizing the camera’s feed. This investigation focused on how such perspective shifts affect user perception. The findings revealed that the first-person perspective was easier to use, while the third-person perspective often induced feelings of sickness. However, no significant difference was noted in the sense of immersion between the two viewpoints.
