In Japan, there are indications that individuals with populist tendencies support the Japan Innovation Party (JIP) and Reiwa Shinsengumi. The 2024 general election for the House of Representatives resulted in a major defeat for the Liberal Democratic Party, leading to major political shifts. This study analyzes election data to examine the influence of populist attitudes on voting behavior. The findings reveal a gender-based difference in populist tendencies, with men exhibiting a higher proportion than women. However, no clear trend was observed in which populist tendencies declined as social class increased. Furthermore, individuals with populist orientations were more likely to vote for JIP and Reiwa Shinsengumi, with similar indications observed for the Democratic Party for the People. From this perspective, JIP, as a right-wing populist party, and Reiwa Shinsengumi, as a left-wing populist party, have emerged as key alternatives for voters dissatisfied with established political parties.
