Abstract
In order to study on the three-dimensional separation, the velocity distribution around a spheroid at attack of angle and wall static pressure distribution on it are measured. The results of the measurements are compared with the solutions calculated by the boundary layer theory. The results may be summarized as follows: i) The velocity near the three-dimensional separation line is slow, so the separation bubble occurs at first on the three-dimensional separation line. ii) The section of the separation bubble at the end of the spheroid looks like the shape of a horseshoe. iii) The location of the spheroid from which vortices are shed is not necessarily the same with the three-dimensional separation line. iv) The transverse wall static pressure gradients measured near the end of spheroid is milder than those predicted by the inviscid theory. v) The flow with the three-dimensional separation line can be calculated to a certain degree by the boundary layer theory.
