It is well known that a ship in riding at a single anchor begins often slewing motion under the external disturbance such as wind and current, and it is important to control the slewing motion for safety of anchoring. In general, the slewing motion in riding at a single anchor will be affected by various factors, in this paper emphasis has been placed upon the effect of shallow water on the slewing motion. From the results which were obtained for two type model ships by using the theoretical method, the slewing motion is varied by the parameter of water depth. For example, the slewing motion for a tanker model is developing in H/d=1.5 (H: water depth, d: draft) than in deep water, but is decreasing in more shallow water than H/d=1.5. Thus the motion is significantly affected in a certain water depth, and it should be considered that water depth is one of the important factor as well as wind and current for the slewing motion of ship in riding at a single anchor.
