The crystal structures of optical resolving agents, (1S,2R)-2-(benzamido) cyclohexanecarboxylic acid (BACO) and its reduction product, (1S,2R)-2-(benzylamino)cyclohexanemethanol (BACH), were determined, and correlated with its physicochemical properties. The molecular structure in BACO is rigidly stabilized by the intramolecular hydrogen bond, but the tweeter-like structure in BACH is flexible. The results from thermal experiments essentially describe that the crystal form of BACO is more stable than that of BACH.
