Sasakia charonda is single brooded in nature. Very rarely second brood has been recorded under breeding condition in netted environment in extremely hot summer or in times when bright overnight garden light was nearby. In the fall of 2008, two males and four females of second brood emerged from successively breeding materials since 2006. After coupling one pair of these second broods, about 60 eggs were obtained which hatched in late October to early November. These larvae grew steadily but could only reach to second instar by December when natural defoliation of food plant Celtis sinensis began. For diapause to occur, growth to at least fourth instar is required (?). In breeding in the room, potted Celtis boninensis was used, which had renewed foliation under artificial condition in green house. Larvae grew slowly during winter without hibernation. In May, they pupated. Six males and three females emerged in mid May to early June. Sizes of emerged adults were intermediate between first and second brood. They were fertile and numerous additional second broods appeared in the following autumn which might suggest hereditary factor as a cause of second brood emergence.
